True Stories

In the True Stories project, we focus on the old trees of the Radziwiłł Park, treating them as carriers of memory – silent witnesses of the past. Within the park borders entire histories are inscribed: the life of the palace and the park, the presence of people and their conversations, their joys and sorrows as well as weather conditions including: tempests, harsh winters and the scorching sun. Everything that truly happened remains stored within those trees, recorded by time itself.

Our aim is to translate this natural archive into a visual language – to listen to the “speech” of trees and allow it to manifest itself. Each tree becomes a matrix: we gently press square sheets of clay onto its bark, taking impressions without causing harm. Then these imprints are covered with printing ink and transferred onto a long strip of canvas, forming a kind of shroud – an archive of past events. The canvas, once imprinted, is hung from a branch, returning symbolically to its source.

The project draws upon the ideas behind our collective work Letters, which centers on genuine communication through weekly visual exchanges. In times of distorted narratives and fragmented truths, True Stories becomes an invitation to reflect on what “real truth” might mean – one rooted in nature, matter, and the quiet passage of time.
